Romanticism was an artistic, literary, musical and intellectual movement that originated in Europe toward the end of the 18th century, and in most areas wasat its peak in the approximate period from 1800 to 1850.

浪漫主義作為一個藝術(shù)流派和社會思潮，產(chǎn)生于18世紀(jì)末的歐洲，在1850年到達(dá)巔峰。

Romanticism was characterized by its emphasis on emotion and individualism as well as glorification of all the past and nature, preferring the medieval rather thanthe classical.

浪漫主義是文藝的基本創(chuàng)作方法之一，與現(xiàn)實(shí)主義同為文學(xué)藝術(shù)上的兩大主要思潮。

The movement emphasized intense emotion as an authentic source of aesthetic experience, placing new emphasis on such emotions as apprehension, horrorand terror, and awe—especially that experienced in confronting the new aesthetic categories of the sublimity and beauty of nature.

作為創(chuàng)作方法，浪漫主義在反映客觀現(xiàn)實(shí)上側(cè)重從主觀內(nèi)心世界出發(fā)，抒發(fā)對理想世界的熱烈追求，常用熱情奔放的語言、瑰麗的想象和夸張的手法來塑造形象。強(qiáng)調(diào)直覺、想象力、和感覺，甚至到了被一些人批評為“非理性主義”的程度。

一、Definition:

A movement in the arts and literature which originated in the late 18th century, emphasizing inspiration, subjectivity, and the primacy of the individual. Often contrasted with classicism.

文藝運(yùn)動18世紀(jì)末興起的一種藝術(shù)和文學(xué)運(yùn)動，強(qiáng)調(diào)靈感、主觀性和個人至上經(jīng)常與古典主義相對照。
