　　1.direction/destination/distance

　　從一個(gè)地方去另一個(gè)地方(movement)。這里要注意的是，movement不只是具體的place，也可以是比較抽象的地方。

　　Do you usually take the bus to school?/If you’re feeling sick you should talk to a doctor./It’s only 6 kilometers from my house to the office.

　　2.time/time between two points

　　表述截止到的時(shí)間點(diǎn)，或是從某個(gè)時(shí)間點(diǎn)到另一個(gè)時(shí)間點(diǎn)。

　　I study English Monday to Thursday every week./The supermarket is open from 9 to 7.

　　3.preference

　　表達(dá)兩者之間更喜歡/傾向于選擇某一個(gè)的時(shí)候。

　　I prefer chocolate ice cream to vanilla ice cream.

　　4.limit/endpoint

　　表達(dá)結(jié)束點(diǎn)或是極限點(diǎn)，常與up to換用。

　　During the flood,the water came to my knees./The tickets could cost up to$200 each during the high season.

　　表達(dá)益處/好處。

　　Ginger is great for your immune system.

　　2.duration/period of time

　　表達(dá)一段時(shí)間，因此常與完成時(shí)連用。

　　They’ve been living in the city for three years already./I’ve been waiting for 20 minutes already.Where are you?

　　3.helping someone

　　表達(dá)幫助誰，或?yàn)檎l做什么事情。

　　I baked a cake for you./I need to collect the mail for my mother./Could you grab those apples for me?

　　4.function/use/purpose

　　表達(dá)功能以及用途，常用for+Ving。

　　Yeast is used for baking bread./That camera is used for taking pictures underwater.

　　TO&FOR

　　(reasons/motive)

　　兩個(gè)介詞都可以用來表達(dá)原因或是動(dòng)機(jī)，只是在用法上略有不同，to后加動(dòng)詞原形，for后加名詞。

　　He studied English to apply for a job./She is studying French for work.
